How to choose your commercial EV charging station?
Charging station power

Level 3 chargers usually have voltages around 480 V and can give up to 160 kms per hour of charge! Of course, they do take more time to install than level 1 or 2 chargers. As with everything, it’s all about finding the right balance between power and cost!
Level 2 is usually the most widely used charger. It does not require too much installation work and can be managed by just one person. Most cars that are manufactured today can handle level 2 chargers.
Terminal connectivity
Another important thing to consider is connectivity. There are different protocols today on the market. You need to make sure the selected station will support them.
Here is a list of the main communication protocols:
- J1772 : The most widely used standard.
- CCS: Combined Charging System, adapted for North America and Asia-Pacific markets. Used for fast charging SAE Combo connector compatible plug-in vehicles.
- CHAdeMO: The protocol developed in Japan. This standard is used for fast charging the Nissan Leaf and Kia Soul, among others.
- GB/T: China’s alternative to the J1772 standard. Used by Chinese manufacturers such as BYD and Kandi Technologies Corp.
- Tesla: Developed by Tesla Motors, it can only power its cars currently. But it will be open to other manufacturers soon.
